AGENCY: Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality POSTING EXPIRES: 09/04/2020 SALARY RANGE: $40,340.00 – $58,493.00 per year CLASS SUMMARY The Ecologist is responsible for conducting research or performing investigation for the purpose of identifying, abating, or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that affect either the environment or the health of the population. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural science or a related field; plus two years of experience in environmental evaluation and control or a related area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

** Ability to travel overnight
** Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and walk or hike various terrains
** Ability to lift or carry sampling equipment that may weigh up to 40 pounds
***PREFERRED***
** Working knowledge of collection of water quality, habitat, phytoplankton, macroinvertebrate, and fish samples for evaluation
** Ability to evaluate water quality, biological, and other pertinent data for water quality standards and designated use attainment determination
** Working knowledge of macroinvertebrate sorting and fish sorting/identification
** Ability to prepare/present oral/written reports & documents regarding activities and testing results, as required or requested
** Ability to review project plans, quality assurance project documents, use attainability analyses, and project reports and assessments developed by outside entities
** Ability to provide technical information/assistance regarding water resources
** Ability to effectively communicate with members of the public and state and federal agencies
** Working knowledge of public participation and/or stakeholder involvement process
** Ability to collect, interpret, and display GIS/GPS data
** General knowledge of state/federal regulations governing water quality
