Lab Manager position available in coral microbial ecology at Rice University

The Correa Lab at Rice University (http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~ac53 <http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~ac53>) is looking for a full-time Lab Manager. This person will be responsible for day-to-day tasks of managing the lab such as equipment ordering and maintenance, chemical inventory, sample processing, data entry/analysis, planning field research expeditions, maintaining algal cultures, etc. The job will also entail extensive fieldwork and microbial ecology research on coral reefs (and other coastal ecosystems) in the Indo-Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. Applicants should have a BS/BA or MS in microbiology, ecology & evolution, or marine science. Significant experience working in a molecular laboratory (e.g., sterile technique, DNA or RNA extractions, PCR optimization) is required; skills in virology, real-time PCR and bioinformatics analysis are preferred. Previous field research experience on SCUBA, experience working in Mo=E2=80=99orea (French Polynesia) and on coral reefs, AAUS qualification, and familiarity with the operation and trailering of small boats are all preferred. The position is for a one-year appointment (with opportunity for a second based on performance) and will be hourly with benefits. Start date is negotiable, but the position is available immediately.
