Research Associate, Dept Natural Resource Ecology & Management, Iowa State University

The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking a Research Associate II to work, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Julie Blanchong), on a project whose objective is to develop genomic tools for white-tailed deer.

The individual in this position will a) communicate with state natural resource agencies to coordinate collection of hunter-harvested deer samples, b) conduct lab work including solution preparation, DNA extraction, DNA quantification, and agarose gel electrophoresis, and c) organize, maintain, and map records of deer samples using Excel or Access and GIS. The individual will work closely with the PI to select samples for a SNP array, analyze SNP data, and develop a plan for communicating results to state natural resource agencies.

This is a 12 month position. Salary will be determined based on experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing and organizing data in Excel or Access

Experience using GIS

Experience in lab work including preparation of solutions, DNA extraction, agarose gel electrophoresis

Experience, or interest in, working with SNP data

Degree in wildlife biology or related field
