EEB offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. We invite applications from qualified students with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any facet of biology who are interested in graduate study in ecology and evolutionary biology. Students with unusual backgrounds who show a strong commitment to and potential for academic work in biology will also be considered.

Because acceptance to the program depends on a good match between faculty and student interests, applicants should initiate a correspondence with the faculty member(s) whose lab they are interested in as early as possible, preferably before completing the application process. You are also encouraged, if possible, to visit UConn to meet with both faculty and graduate students.

The application process requires submission of the formal graduate school application pages, transcripts, GRE scores (at least the general and preferably both general and biology), three letters of reference, a personal essay, and, for non-native speakers of English, TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Applications are reviewed once a year, beginning December 15th and proceeding until March. Submission prior to the review starting date is strongly encouraged, particularly for students requesting financial support. The department does not normally consider applications for entry in the spring semester.

Applications are reviewed by the departmental graduate admissions committee, in consultation with prospective advisers. Letters offering admission to the program are sent out beginning in March and continuing through the spring. Accepted students are requested to notify the department of their decision to accept or decline the offer of admission and financial support as early as possible, but no later than April 15.
